The Perpetual Motion Gala, Ojai Music Festival

Honoree Joan Kemper with family members Lauren Steinhaus and Bob Kemper.

n May 3 at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, the Ojai Music Festival paid tribute to Joan Kemper, a longtime supporter and former Festival administrator, in recognition of her philanthropic work. The gala included a cocktail party followed by a live auction and sit-down dinner. The evening's highlight was a hands-on exhibition and demonstration of sound sculptures created by Trimpin, a MacArthur Genius grant composer, sculptor, and inventor who is an Ojai Music Festival favorite known worldwide for his awe-inspiring installations. Trimpin was joined by Daniel J. Socolow, director of the MacArthur Fellows Program. Special guests thanked Ms. Kemper for her public service contributions to Ojai Valley nonprofit organizations such as the Ojai Valley Hospital, Ojai Land Conservancy, the Ojai Film Society, and the Ojai Music Festival, which she ran during the mid-1990s. The 63rd Annual Ojai Music Festival takes place this month, June 11- 14, at the Libbey Bowl in Ojai. Visit OjaiFestival.org for more information.
