The Camarillo Chamber of Commerce’s Top Ten Community Awards During a feel-good evening at the Spanish Hills Country Club, the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce recognized the individuals, organizations and businesses that work every day to make Camarillo a better place to live. Man of the Year David Press was honored for his dedication to the Camarillo Boys & Girls Club and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital/St. John’s Regional Medical Center, while Woman of the Year Pat Richards was honored for her commitment to the arts and her work in organizing the Camarillo Art & Jazz Festival, which is set for the weekend of August 4, 2006. Other honorees included: Imation (Business of the Year), Keith Grim (Entrepreneur of the Year), Debbi Maki (Educator of the Year), Loryn Moore (Youth of the Year), Ira Grooms (Senior of the Year), Danita Crombach (Public Servant of the Year), Dr. David Migocki (Volunteer of the Year) and Camarillo-Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club (Service Organization of the Year).

The Grand Opening of the Murphy Auto Museum Classic automobiles, vintage clothing, a barbershop quartet and a BBQ lunch were all part of the festivities at the grand opening of the Murphy Auto Museum in Oxnard. The grand opening, which was also a fundraiser for both Caregivers, a Ventura-based volunteer organization dedicated to assisting the elderly, and the Murphy Classic Car Foundation, introduced attendees to the elegant and newly renovated, 18,400-square-foot museum. Camarillo Hospice’s 10th Annual Spring Garden Tour Every year Camarillo Hospice, a community program of volunteer assistance to patients with life-threatening illnesses, their caregivers and the bereaved, organizes a spring garden tour as its major fundraiser. This year’s tour featured the beautiful gardens of David and Shannon Karen, Mike and Bonnie Masculine, Yvonne Parker and Dee Press and Marianne Slaughter. The tour was self-guided and offered attendees a variety of different garden styles. Docents were on hand to answer questions and provide direction.
